Be a Leader

Our imaginative programs help youth discover self-confidence, teamwork and leadership skills, while developing a caring attitude and respect for the environment, their communities, and their world.

Who provides this dynamic program? It takes a team of dedicated and caring volunteers to make adventures come alive for our youth.

We need parents and other dedicated adults to help offer adventure and education to young people. If you can commit 12-14 hours per month, are willing to help your community and learn new skills, and successfully complete the volunteer screening process, you can be a leader!

We'll help you every step of the way. You'll receive a personal interview, provide us with personal references, and apply for a Police Records Check. With one-on-one help from an experienced coach, you'll participate in a three-month orientation and probation period where you'll learn all the basics to help you provide great programs for youth.

Once you become a leader, you're provided with further training and plenty of tools and support to help you on your way. You can attend courses and workshops, you'll receive Leader magazine every month, and you can find lots of resources on the Scouts Canada web site.

If you would like to be a leader in the Hamilton Wentworth Area, contact one of our Commissioners.

Volunteer Recruitment and Development

New Scouters Welcome Kit - New Scouters can find an introduction to the background of Scouting, the Mission and Vision of Scouts Canada, the key Principles, Law, Promise and the three position statements that are used as the foundation for youth development.

Volunteer Support Toolkit - Scouts Canada wants to ensure that our Section Scouters have the knowledge, support, sense of commitment, and enthusiasm they need to thrive. Without making this happen for our volunteers, we risk not having the broad impact on the Canada of tomorrow that we know is possible.
